Malta: Budget 2012 Fiscal Measures Announced


On the 14th November 2011, the Minister of Finance, Economy and Investment presented the Budget for the year 2012. The main features of the budget include:

  • New tax rates for parents and longer maternity leave
  • Schemes to encourage investment in digital games
  • Changes to the Law on Part-Time Work
  • VAT penalties Amnesty
  • Excise Duty on Cigarettes, Bunkering Fuel and Cement and Vehicle Registration Tax
  • Car Scrappage Scheme
  • Cost of Living Allowance
  • Power Tariffs
  • Private School Fees Tax Deduction
  • Increase in Children's Allowance and other benefits
  • Green energy incentives for major power users and investment incentives
  • Removal of TV License
  • Grant for people aged 80 years and over
  • Others
