German Institute of Certified Public Auditors (IDW) Announces New Chairman of the Council

Prof Dr Edelfried SchneiderThe German Institute of Certified Public Auditors (Institut der Wirtschaftspruefer - IDW) announces the appointment of Prof. Dr. Edelfried Schneider from HLB member firm Dr. Dienst & Partner, Koblenz to the position of Chairman of the Council for a term of four years. Edelfried Schneider was elected during the annual meeting of the Council on October 12, 2011 after having served for eight years as non-executive director on the board of IDW. The council is the ultimate body of the Institute, comprising 50 members from the profession.

The Institut der Wirtschaftsprüfer in Deutschland e.V. (IDW) [Institute of Certified Public Auditors in Germany, Incorporated Association] was founded in 1932 and its 12,200 personnel members represent about 85% of the profession in Germany. Membership is voluntary. The IDW safeguards the interests of its members, supports the exercise of their professional practice through technical advice and professional standards, promotes the education and continuing professional development of professionals and applicants, and provides compre¬hensive member services.

The IDW is active in the following technical areas: financial reporting and auditing, tax and professional requirements, and business consulting. The IDW's headquarters are situated in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Further members of the Council are Hans Hermann Schumacher (HLB Münster) and Ulrich Emde (HLB Bremen); the term of Dr. Hans Joachim Daiber (HLB Stuttgart) expired.
