Zambian accounting firm joins HLB International
HLB International has signed its first member firm in Zambia. Reliance Chartered Accountants, trading as Reliance, is a fast-growing accountancy practice based in Lusaka, which specialises in audit, tax and corporate services work for limited companies and non-governmental organisations, and is ranked within the top 15 accountancy firms in the country.
India Tax News: Amendments relating to tax treaties need a relook
Under the existing Indian law, the Tax Treaties (DTAA) that India has signed with other countries supersede the domestic tax law of both the respective countries. The Supreme Court in case of "Azadi Bachao Andolan" [263 ITR 706] also clarified that a Tax Treaty is essentially a bargain between two sovereign States.
HLB International to strengthen coverage in the UK
Following its share suspension on the AIM market on 14 June 2010, Vantis plc, former member of HLB International, confirmed on 30 June that it has entered administration and that its operating units have been sold to 3rd parties or acquired through management buy-outs.
New Tax Treaty between the Netherlands and Hong Kong
The Dutch Minister of Finance and the Hong Kong Treasury signed the first tax treaty between the Netherlands and Hong Kong in March 2010. It is expected that the tax treaty will have effect as of from 1 January 2011 for the Netherlands and, 1 April 2011 for Hong Kong.
